Kimberley Newport-Mimran is President and Design Director of Pink Tartan, the womenswear brand that she
founded in 2002. Pink Tartan has developed into a global label known for understated luxury and sophisticated
sportswear. The New York showroom was opened in 2004, and the company now includes a design studio based
in Toronto. The Pink Tartan line is carried at Hudson’s Bay Company and Holt Renfrew as well as specialty stores
across North America, Central America, Middle East and Europe.
After graduating from a fashion merchandising and manufacturing management program, Newport-Mimran began her career
in the buying office at the Hudson’s Bay Company. She then applied her expertise to the iconic Canadian label Club Monaco,
where she developed a keen understanding of structure and tailoring. Upon her move to Caban, Newport-Mimran honed her
knowledge of fabrics and luxury design. With this compilation of experience, Newport-Mimran went on to establish Pink Tartan.
Kim is married to Joe Mimran, and together they split their time between Toronto, New York and Palm Beach. The couple have a
daughter Jacqueline, born in 2001. A recent addition to the family in 2013 is Max Mimran, the family’s beloved French bulldog.
Pink Tartan is a lifestyle brand with a clear identity that epitomizes President and Design director
Kimberley Newport-Mimran’s appreciation of style and modern sophistication. The collection is
known for elegant sportswear pieces. Found in understated super-luxe fabrics, exceptional details can
be found in the subtle addition of tech-fabrics, engineered to fit and flatter a women’s figure.
“I’m a sportswear designer,” says Newport-Mimran. “I make clothes to
live your life and easily transition from day to dinner.”
Introducing new wardrobe staples every season in fresh prints, colours & cuts,
Pink Tartan is characterized by its equally effortless and luxurious style.
Pink Tartan opened it’s first flagship store in Toronto’s Yorkville shopping district in 2010. The lifestyle concept shop is
housed in 77 Yorkville Avenue, the noted address on the corner of Bellair and Yorkville. The historic Georgian gem was
built in 1837, and since 1926 it housed the antique treasure trove The Paisley Shop. The space has been redesigned by
internationally acclaimed designer Diego Burdi of Burdifilek. “It is beautiful and white, with light herringbone floors
and modern panelling,” says Newport-Mimran, who wanted the shop to reflect the homes she shares in Toronto and
New York with her husband, Joe Mimran, and daughter. “We have mixed modern classics with vintage pieces.”
Context was the point for her first foray into retail under her own label, an opportunity to showcase
the full Pink Tartan lifestyle. Alongside the latest Pink Tartan collection, Newport-Mimran has
arranged a highly edited selection of gift items, clothing, accessories and anything else that she finds
inspirational. “They are little luxury items that make you feel good or smile,” she says.
